A Yoga and Pilates Studio in Hyattsville, Maryland

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows – Part 3

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you are either a regular yoga, Feldenkrais, or Pilates student at Yoga Space, or are thinking about taking classes there.

What if I told you there was a way to take classes at Yoga Space for free year-round? That’s right.  Free yoga classes; free Pilates classes; forever!

There’s got to be a catch, right? Well, yes, and no.  For the past two months I have included in this newsletter a link to my blog about The Independent Order of Odd Fellows.  In case you missed it, here are the links to the previous two blogs:

All you need to do is become a member of our Lodge.

Although we are called “Odd Fellows,” we are not all that odd, and we are not all fellows.   Women can–and do–become members.  Several of our members are married couples.  The only commitment you need to make is to attend most of the meetings.  We meet the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, with the exception of July and August, when we are closed.

MMMMMM. FREE FOOD!

We meet at about 5:30 pm and share a free dinner. Then, at 6:30 pm we hold our meeting.  It usually lasts one hour.  That’s all there is to it.  You eat a free meal (if you want,) and attend a one-hour meeting twice a month.  And for that you get …if you are among the first 10 persons to join

One free yoga or Pilates class, as long as it is one taught by me, Douglas Thompson.

WOW! FREE YOGA AND PILATES.

As long as you remain a member of the Odd Fellows, your class will continue to be absolutely free.

What else do we do at the Odd Fellows?

OOOOOOOH! A PLACE TO EXERCISE.

Well, you will get a key to the Lodge, and whenever you want, you can go upstairs, enjoy the facilities, sit and read, lift weights in our exercise room, use our Total Gym, (the link is a video on the history of Total Gym, but you can see many of the exercises you can do on it,) play pool on our real slate pool table, or…

MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The Independent Order of Odd Fellows is a non-profit fraternal organization, so, you can start a committee, and do some good in the community.  You can raise money for a special project you might want to do, or get fellow members, or even other community members to help you do some volunteer work.  Clean up a park, pick up trash on the Hyattsville trails, take a senior citizen grocery shopping.

These kinds of projects are all in line with the teachings of yoga that we learn about in the studio, as well as an integral part of the teachings of the Odd Fellows.

So I’m now asking you to become a member of our Lodge, help the Odd Fellows grow and prosper, help your community, and if you are among the first ten persons to join, enjoy a free yoga or Pilates class at Yoga Space.
