What is Ayurveda
Ayurveda is the
sister science of Yoga, originating in India, and going back
thousands of years. It
is a very powerful natural healing system for the body mind and
spirit. Ayurvedic
methods cover a wide array of health practices, including massage,
yoga, diet, exercise, and life-style management relative to our
unique individual constitutions.
We learn through Ayurveda,
that what may be good for one person may not be good for another.
What may be helpful for a person during one time of the year
may not be so helpful at another time.
Ayurveda examines
each individual and determines her or his constitution by assessing
physical and emotional characteristics, and recognizing the pranic
or life energy within. Based
on that assessment, a customized series of four sessions is
prepared.
First session (Initial
Assessment): In this session, your
constitution is initially determined, and a customized one-hour Thai
Yoga Massage is given. After
the massage, we will sit, drink some tea together, and talk about
your unique body type. You
will be given some information about Ayurveda and your body type to
bring home and read.
Second
session (Yoga Practice): You will be
given your customized one-hour Thai Yoga Massage.
This time, as we drink our tea, we will talk about your yoga
practice. If you have
never done yoga before, I will teach you some basic poses to
practice. You will be
given a short and medium yoga session to take home and do during the
week(s) before your third session.
Third
session (Food recommendations):
As before, you will first be given your customized one-hour
Thai Yoga Massage. During
our tea and chat, we will talk about food, and learn what foods are
good for you and what foods you should avoid.
You will learn some very gentle ways to gradually
change your diet. You
will be given further information, including a food list to take
home with you.
Fourth
session (Life-style changes): Of
course we will begin with your one-hour massage. Afterwards, while we drink our tea, we will talk about
lifestyle, and some simple changes you can make, if needed. You will take home with you some information about a healthy
life-style for your individual constitution.
