The Talented People at Yoga Space
The Talented People at Yoga Space
I’m talking about you–the students who come to Yoga Space for Yoga, Pilates, Feldenkrais, Tai Chi, and community.
Many of you have noteworthy talents, and this month I would like to start bragging about some of you and your particular talents.
This month I’m featuring Janine Gomez, who is one of the founding team members of DC’s I Dream Academy.
What is I Dream Academy?
Imagine a school where the students get to design their own program based on their own dreams, their own interests, their own aspirations. And then imagine a team that includes a coach and a mentor that works with that student to insure that through their dreams, they also get the education they need to succeed in life!
That’s what I Dream Academy is all about. It doesn’t try to cram pre-programmed one-size-fits-all learning blocks into children’s heads. Instead, it listens to each child, and inspires them to learn through the pursuit of their individual interests and dreams. Can you imagine a school where the first 20 minutes of each day is called ME TIME? Where, during that 20 minutes, you can do exactly what you want to do: run around a baseball field; watch a video on how to paint; play chess with a fellow “Dreamer.”
First, watch this video that features Darnell Lawson, an 8 year old who struggled in the normal school setting.
HIS STRONG POINTS:
- Energetic and athletic
- Loves baseball, basketball, and football
- Excels in math
BUT
- His grades don’t reflect his brilliance
- He misses class time often
- Shouts out answers
- Has a difficult time sitting still and listening to the teacher talk.
Watch for yourself what happened to Darnell when he came to I Dream Academy, and where he ended up five years later at age 13.

Pretty amazing, right? That’s what I thought too.
If you would like to enroll your child (ages 4-13) in a FREE Dreamer Camp, March 26-30, 2018, you can get an early glimpse of how I Dream Academy nurtures and inspires children to learn.
Go to this website to enroll your child, and to learn more about I Dream Academy.

Another 2-week program is currently being planned for the summer.
And stay tuned to my blogs. In coming months, I will feature other talented Yoga Space students. Maybe you know something about one of your fellow students and would like to be a guest blogger. Send me an email, and we can discuss it more. I look forward to hearing from you, and sharing stories of the many talented family at Yoga Space.
